¡Cuéntanos sobre el comienzo de Letters From The Colony

Me uní a la banda a principios de 2016 cuando buscaron un bajista, pero la banda ha estado presente desde 2010 y comenzó como muchas otras bandas; conoces personas que tocan algún tipo de instrumento y tienen el mismo gusto musical.

Sin embargo, ha habido muchos cambios de alineación a través de los años. Somos una banda que participa en todo, lo hemos hecho desde el principio y, a veces, eso no es lo que todos quieren y luego hay que reagruparse y encontrar nuevas personas.

Johan tocaba el bajo antes de unirme a la banda, pero sintió que quería ir a su instrumento principal; la guitarra. Esa fue la razón por la que me llamaron y me preguntaron si estaba interesado en ocupar el lugar como bajista. No puedo negar que estaba un poco aterrorizado al principio, porque sé lo compleja que es la música y nunca pensé que podría tocar este loco material, jaja. Pero dado que ensayamos mucho, comenzó a encajar, y ahora parece que somos una unidad realmente sólida.

Cómo fue la composición y producción de 'Vignette'?

El proceso comenzó en la primavera de 2015. Sebastian, guitarrista y principal compositor, había escrito algunas canciones nuevas que estábamos ansiosos por grabar y editar, así que en lugar de esperar a que terminara de escribir 4 o 5 más, tomamos la decisión. para volver a trabajar e incluir algunos de los "antiguos" y comenzar un nuevo capítulo.

Sebastian tiene una forma muy interesante de trabajar Comienza con los detalles y avanza hacia afuera para crear una imagen más grande, que es algo que creo que nos distingue de otras bandas. Él es muy consecuente con él, por lo que las canciones escritas hace 5 años no son muy diferentes de las que estamos escribiendo ahora.

Terminamos con la batería en el verano de ese año, pero una vez que comenzamos a rastrear guitarras sentimos que faltaba la calidad del sonido, así que comenzamos desde cero y mejoramos nuestro equipo de estudio y grabamos la batería nuevamente. Tener acceso a tu propio estudio con una cantidad ilimitada de tiempo puede ser tanto una bendición como una maldición. Pero estamos contentos de haber hecho un segundo intento, hizo que el álbum suene mucho mejor.

Alexander, nuestro cantante y también el ingeniero de estudio y mezclador, hizo la mezcla a principios de abril de 2016, y las canciones fueron enviadas a Fascination Street Studios donde Jens (Bogren) se encargo de los toques finales.

¿Cuáles son las influencias en Letters From The Colony?

Hay muchas influencias en LFTC porque somos 5 personas con diferentes antecedentes, pero principalmente son Meshuggah, Gojira, Textures, Between The Buried And Me y Pink Floyd.

En cuanto al público, ¿cómo es la respuesta a “Vignette”?

Estamos abrumados por la increíble respuesta! Es mucho más de lo que esperábamos. La mayoría de los comentarios son extremadamente positivos y estamos muy orgullosos y felices por ello.

¿Cuáles son los planes de la gira?

Recientemente, firmamos un acuerdo con una agencia de booking y estamos felices de poder salir lo más pronto posible para promocionar el álbum. Por ahora tenemos un par de festivales programados, pero con suerte habrá algún tipo de tours en el futuro cercano.

¿España está en vuestros planes de gira?

Me encantaría ir a España y hacer un par de shows, ¡sería increíble! Haremos lo que podamos para que esto suceda. :)

Letters From the Colony son de Suecia. Tu país tiene una gran escena de metal. ¿Qué apoyo hay en los medios?

Sí, es bastante loco cuántas buenas bandas provienen de Suecia. Se dice que puede haber algo especial con el agua potable ...;)

Hi, I'm Emil and I play bass in Letters From the Colony. Thank you so much!

¡Tell us about the beginning of Letters From The Colony

I joined the band in the beginning of 2016 when they searched for a bass player, but the band has been around since 2010 and started out as many other bands; you meet people that play some kind of instrument and has the same taste of music.

There has been a lot of line-up changes through the years though. We're a band that goes all in, we've done that from the beginning and sometimes that's not what everyone wants and then you have to regroup and find new people.

Johan played bass before I joined the band, but felt that he wanted to go to his main instrument instead; guitar. So that was the reason they called me and asked if I was interested to fill the spot as bass player. I cannot deny that I was a bit terrified at first, because I know how complex the music is and I never thought that I would be able to play that crazy stuff, haha. But since we rehearsed a lot it started to fall in place, and now it feels like we're a really solid unit.

How went the composition and production of “Vignette”?

The process began in the spring of 2015. Sebastian, guitarist and main song writer, had written some new songs that we were all very eager to record and release, so instead of waiting for him to finish writing 4 or 5 more we made the decision to rework and include some of the “old ” ones and start a new chapter.

Sebastian has a very interesting way of working. He starts with the details and works his way outwards to craft some sort of bigger picture, which is something that I think sets us apart from other bands. He's very consistent with it, so songs written 5 years ago aren't too different from the ones we're writing now.

We were done with drums in the summer that year, but once we started tracking guitars we felt like the sound quality were lacking, so we started over from scratch and upgraded our studio equipment and recorded the drums all over again. Having access to your own studio with unlimited amount of time can be both a blessing and a curse. But we're glad we did a second try, it made the album sound a lot better.

Alexander, our singer and also the studio engineer and mixer, was done mixing in early April 2016, and the songs were then sent off to Fascination Street Studios where Jens did the finishing touches.

What are the influences in Letters From The Colony?

There are many influences in LFTC because we're 5 individuals with different backgrounds, but mainly it's Meshuggah, Gojira, Textures, Between The Buried And Me and Pink Floyd.

About the public, How is the answer to “Vignette”?

We're overwhelmed by the incredible response! It's way more than we've ever hoped for. The majority of the reviews are extremely positive and we're super proud and happy for it.

What are the tour plans?

We recently signed a deal with a booking agency and we're stoked to get out there as soon as possible to promote the album. For now we have a couple festival shows planned, but hopefully it will be tours of some sort in the near future.

Is Spain in your tour plans?

I would love to come to Spain and do a couple of shows, that would be awesome! We'll do what we can to make it happen. :)

Letters From the Colony are from Sweden. Your country have a great metal scene. What support is there from the media?

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how many good bands that hail from Sweden. It is said that there may be something special with the drinking water... ;)
